Setting up LinkedIn matching and the Profile Finder

Engagement Sync and Job Change Monitoring both need to find the right Attio person to update. This is done by matching LinkedIn profile data against a Person attribute in Attio. This article explains how to configure that matching and optionally enable automatic LinkedIn profile lookup for people that don't have one.

Why LinkedIn matching matters

When a Signal detects social activity from one of your monitored people, the platform needs to link that activity back to the correct Attio Person Record. It does this by matching the LinkedIn username or profile URL from the activity against a person attribute in Attio.

Without this configured, Engagement Sync and Job Change Monitoring won't run.

Configuring the LinkedIn match attribute

Go to Integrations → Attio → Social Sync tab.

Primary match attribute

Select the Attio Person attribute that stores your people's LinkedIn profile URL or username. The default Attio attribute for this is typically linkedin — if you've stored LinkedIn data elsewhere, select the appropriate attribute from the dropdown.

Fallback match attribute (optional)

If no match is found in the primary attribute, the platform can try a second Attio Person attribute. Useful if LinkedIn data is stored inconsistently across your records.

Testing the match

Use the Test match tool to verify your configuration. Enter a LinkedIn profile URL (e.g. https://www.linkedin.com/in/username) and click Test. The platform searches your Attio people using your configured attributes and shows whether a matching record was found.

Test with a person you know exists in Attio before relying on the match for live sync rules.

LinkedIn Profile Finder

Cost: -10 credits per valid result

Some people in your Attio workspace won't have a LinkedIn profile URL stored. Without it, the platform can't match them for social monitoring.

The LinkedIn Profile Finder solves this automatically. When enabled, it searches for the LinkedIn profile of any person missing one — using their name, company, and other available data. When a profile is found, the result is written back to the person's LinkedIn attribute in Attio.

Credits are only charged for valid profile results.

Enabling the Profile Finder

In the Social Sync tab, find the LinkedIn Profile Finder section:

  1. Toggle it on.

  2. Set Max attempts per run — the maximum number of profile lookups per import run (1–500, default 50).

The finder runs automatically during each sync rule import cycle, only attempting lookups for people missing a LinkedIn profile.

Saving your settings

Click Save Settings after configuring your match attributes and Profile Finder settings. Rules are saved separately when you create or edit them.

Common issues

Sync rules running but no notes appearing in Attio The most likely cause is that your LinkedIn match attribute isn't populated for most people. Use the Test match tool with a few records to verify. Consider enabling the Profile Finder to fill gaps.

Profile Finder not finding results The finder works best when people have accurate name and company data in Attio. Records with minimal data are harder to match.
